What white label SEO providers leave out when you resell their work

A white label SEO provider usually leaves out three things: fees outside the quote, how links and content are produced, and who answers when Google acts on the site. The reseller carries all three, because the client signed with the agency.

A white label provider tells you its price and its turnaround. It rarely tells you how its links are bought, who edits its posts, or what the contract says when a search engine acts against your client's site. The agency that resells the work answers to the client for all of it, and the markup is the only cushion.

What fees sit outside a white label quote?

Setup fees, content and links are the lines most often priced apart from the monthly retainer. The retainer is printed large, and the extras arrive on the first invoice.

Cost lineTypical priceHow it is billed
Setup and onboarding$500 to $2,500marketOnce
One blog post$150 to $400marketPer post
One placed link$100 to $500marketPer link
Reseller markup on the wholesale price40 to 100 percentmarketAdded by you

These figures are asking prices from provider guides, and the providers selling the service wrote them. We did not measure any provider ourselves. Our fuller breakdown of white label pricing works the same ranges through a margin table.

A setup fee spread over twelve months adds $42 to $208 a month to each clientestimate. That is small beside the retainer and large beside a thin margin, and what clients pay for SEO caps the price you can charge on top.

How much should a reseller mark up, and on what base?

Resellers mark up white label work by 40 to 100 percentmarket. The base matters more than the percentage. A $1,000 wholesale package sold at 40 to 100 percent costs your client $1,400 to $2,000 a monthestimate.

The markup has to cover your account management, your reporting and the time you spend checking the provider's work. If the percentage is applied to the quote and the extras are added afterwards, the real margin is smaller than the one on your spreadsheet. A month of SEO at different budgets shows what the client expects to receive for those figures.

Who answers to Google when the provider buys links?

The agency answers, because the client signed with the agency. Google's spam policies define link spam as buying or selling links for ranking purposes, including exchanging money for linksmarket. A provider that sells a fixed number of links per month is selling placements, and earned links cannot be counted in advance.

Content carries the same exposure. Google's March 2024 update added three policies: scaled content abuse, site reputation abuse and expired domain abusemarket. Scaled content abuse means generating many pages without adding value for users, and a provider that produces posts in bulk without an editor sits close to that line.

Low-quality, unoriginal content in results fell by 45 percent, against the 40 percent Google had expectedmarket. The core update took 45 days to roll out, and the separate spam update took 14market. A client whose rankings move during a rollout calls the agency first. Hiring an agency on proof is the test described when you hire a consultant or an agency, and it applies to your supplier as well.

Can a provider promise rankings?

No provider can promise a ranking, and Google says so in plain words: no one can guarantee a #1 rankingmarket. Guaranteed rankings are the first red flag listed in vetting guides for white label partners, ahead of vague reporting and low pricesmarket.

The practical danger is what comes next. A provider that guarantees positions has to produce them somehow, and the usual shortcuts are the ones in the previous section. If your own sales page repeats that promise, the guarantee is yours as well.

What should you ask about AI search work sold under a white label?

Ask what is actually delivered, because AI search is priced higher than SEO and is easier to relabel. Full optimization retainers for AI visibility cost clients $2,000 to $10,000 or more a monthmarket. At that price a client expects to see its brand in ChatGPT or Perplexity answers, and a package of ordinary posts with the new name on it will not produce that.

The same guides stress checking scope first. LLM Pulse advises confirming whether a white label setup includes branded reports, a custom domain or a fully rebranded portal before describing it to clients. Ask the provider for the questions its tracking runs, the engines it covers and a sample report. A manual brand mention check shows what a basic test of AI answers involves.

How do you check a provider before signing?

Five questions sort most providers, and the answers should be in writing.

  1. Can you show three finished posts and the sources behind each?
  2. Where do the links come from, and can I see the domains before I pay?
  3. Who edits the text, and how many times is it read?
  4. Who owns the content, access and reports if we part ways?
  5. What happens to the fee if the site is demoted for the provider's methods?

Google's own advice for hiring an SEO is to ask for examples of previous work and for all changes made to the site. A provider who dodges the third question is selling volume. The answer to the fourth belongs in the contract before the first payment, because nobody negotiates ownership after a dispute.

Frequently asked questions

What is white label SEO?

White label SEO is a service where an agency sells SEO under its own brand while a provider does the work. The agency owns the client relationship and answers for the result, and the provider answers only to the agency.

How much do agencies mark up white label SEO?

Agencies mark white label SEO up by 40 to 100 percent over the wholesale pricemarket. Apply the percentage to the total invoice including setup, content and reporting, or the margin shrinks.

Who is responsible if the provider buys bad links?

The agency is responsible to the client, because the contract is between the two of them. Google defines buying links for ranking as link spammarket. Write banned methods and a cleanup duty at the provider's cost into the supplier contract.

Should you tell the client a provider does the work?

Check your own contracts for the legal position, but telling the client is the safer course. A client who finds a hidden subcontractor alone tends to distrust the agency even when the work was good. Allowing subcontracting in the client agreement removes the problem.

Can a white label provider guarantee rankings?

No. Google states that no one can guarantee a #1 rankingmarket. A guarantee usually means the provider plans to use shortcuts that put the client's site at risk.
